Woolworth mansion back on market for $90M

The Woolworth mansion at 4 East 80th Street has hit the market for $90 million, Crain’s reported. Located between Fifth and Madison avenues, the property is currently the most expensive townhouse listed in the city, according to Streeteasy.com, and if sold, the sale would break the record for the largest price paid for a townhouse.

Streeteasy shows that this is not the first time the property has been listed with a $90 million asking price. It hit the market with the same price tag in mid-March 2011 until early September 2012 when the listing went offline. The property has been available for rent since early September for $150,000. Paula Del Nunzio, who has the listing, declined to tell Crain’s the name of the owner, though published reports link it to the estate of Lucille Roberts, the fitness mogul.

In fact, the property was vandalized early this year by a disgruntled former employee of the Lucille Roberts chain with paint and BB pellets. The ex employee, David Allen, was charged with attempted grand larceny, attempted coercion, placing a false bomb or hazardous substance, and criminal mischief.

The home rises seven stories high, has 10 bedrooms, 11.5 bathrooms and three kitchens. Other amenities include eight fireplaces, a wood-paneled library and an elevator that reaches all levels. [Crain’s]
