Some 365 NYCHA buildings remain without power

For residents of New York City Housing Authority buildings left without power or water in Lower Manhattan, even basic hygiene tasks have become onerous. Especially the elderly have suffered, DNAinfo reported.

“You take a little towel and do what you can,” James Espinar, 55, told DNAinfo. The Jacob Riis Houses resident has not showered since the storm, and has gotten water only from an open fire hydrant. “I feel like I’m in the Marine Corps again.”

A total of 365 NYCHA houses are still without power, and it’s not clear when it will be restored.

“We’re bathing like peasants,” another resident told DNAinfo. [DNAinfo] –Guelda Voien
