New York’s largest office tower is getting ready to reopen, after being shuttered by Hurricane Sandy for nearly a month and damaged by a fire, the New York post reported. The 3.8 million-square-foot 55 Water Street building had planned to reopen on December 1 but was unable to meet the deadline. Now the office tower is planning for a soft opening this week to allow tenants to inspect their spaces, according to Harry Bridgewood, executive vice-president of New Water Street, an operating unit of the landlord, Retirement Systems of Alabama.

“We have to be very careful and very safe. We’d rather push off the start date than make an appearance that everything will be done by a certain date,” Bridgewood said.
