Douglas Elliman executive vice president and Brazil native Marcos Cohen was named the brokerage’s top individual broker of 2012 at the firm’s annual awards celebration at Cipriani last night, according to an announcement from the firm.

The broker, who hails from Rio de Janeiro, took home top honors for gross commission along with Elliman’s top sales team, a 10-person group led by Leonard Steinberg. Steinberg’s team is based out of The 26 West 17th Street office, while Cohen works out of the company’s office at 575 Madison Avenue.

Cohen, whose business was boosted in 2012 by an uptick in the number of Brazilian buyers active in the New York City property market, has been with the company for 18 years. He previously ranked number two at the firm in 2010, losing out only to Elliman superbroker Dolly Lenz. Lenz has since withdrawn from the awards competition. The Steinberg team nabbed the number two spot last year, losing out to the De Niro team, led by Raphael De Niro.
