The city is looking for a developer to take on the second phase of Hunter’s Point South, a major middle-class housing project on the Queens waterfront, Crain’s reported.
The Department of Housing Preservation and Development made a request for proposals Tuesday for the 1,000 apartment project to be built along the East River between Borden and 54th avenues. The RFP stipulates that at least half of the apartments must cater to middle-and moderate-income families. It also calls for 28,000 square feet of new retail space, and outlined the need for the project to adhere to stricter resiliency standards in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
City housing Commissioner Mathew Wambua said in a release that the RFP was a testament to the city’s commitment to create large middle-class neighborhoods. “The RFP for Phase 2 is proof positive that we have been able to continue to build on our commitment to create a haven of affordability in the Hunter’s Point neighborhood for New York’s hard working families,” Wambua said.
