David Schwimmer (aka Ross) not making “Friends” in Village

Neighbors protest demolition of would-be landmark for townhouse project

Although Rachel and Ross reunited at his apartment in the “Friends” finale almost 10 years ago, East Village residents are not eager for the arrival of actor David Schwimmer, or at least not his new townhouse.

East Village residents have protested Schwimmer, who played the neurotic Ross Geller on the hit NBC sitcom, and his six-story, 9,000-square-foot Townhouse Under Construction On East Sixth Street. He bought a historic 1852 house for $4.1 million in 2010, and soon had it demolished, months after the city revealed the site was approaching landmark status. Construction is nearly complete on the townhouse, also set to feature an elevator and a roof terrace.

Preservationists and neighbors left graffiti and messages on construction boards, such as “The destruction of an irreplaceable historic building for what???” and “Ross is not cool.”

A construction worker confirmed to the New York Post that the home is being built for the actor. Schwimmer did not comment to the newspaper.
