Restaurants rush to Greenpoint

It’s happened: trendy entrepreneurs and enterprising gourmands are officially over Williamsburg. Au courant bars and restaurants looking to open shop in Brooklyn are no longer heading straight for Bedford and North 7th, instead they are traveling north to Greenpoint.

“Williamsburg is oversaturated,” Sara Conklin, owner of Glasserie, a hot new Mediterranean restaurant in Greenpoint, told the New York Post. “People are moving north, there’s so much attention coming to the northern part of Brooklyn because of the waterfront.”

And even Williamsburg staples are looking to expand into the slightly less gentrified neighborhood. For instance, Andrew Tarlow, owner of hot Williamsburg restaurants Diner and Marlow & Sons, has pushed northward, opening Achilles Heel, A Bar Located On 180 West StreetBetween Huron And Green Street.

Greenpoint may not have the same level of fine dining currently found in Williamsburg, but with plans for big residential projects like the one Joseph Chetrit and David Bistricer hope to develop at 77 Commercial Street, it is only a matter of time before the bars, restaurants and neighborhoods are indistinguishable.
