Chelsea Market to serve as snowflaked art installation

Artist Chelsea Hrynick Browne has a vision to turn Chelsea Market’s Artists & Fleas flea market into a 12-foot-by-12-foot installation of rainbow-colored snowflakes.

Browne’s plan is to work with 20 Queens high school students to assemble the colorful origami paper on 1,296 wooden tiles in the space, if she can raise the necessary $2,000 on a Kickstarter site to pull it off.

“I’ve been wanting to use Chelsea Market as the site of an art installation for months now,” Browne told DNAinfo. “It’s a big community space, but it also has a lot of traffic.”

Browne’s previous installations have utilized space at the NYU Langone Children’s Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders and the New York Public Library.

Should the funds materialize, Brown plans to have the exhibit up on Nov. 1 in time for the holiday season. [DNAinfo]Julie Strickland
