Brooks Brothers, the renowned clothier and an enduring symbol of Americana, is getting into the steakhouse business. Brooks Brothers plans to launch a three-story, 15,000-square-foot Midtown restaurant called “Makers and Merchants,” taking the name from its famous clothing slogan.

The steakhouse will open at 11 East 44th Street, around the corner from its flagship store at 346 Madison Avenue, sources told the New York Post. The restaurant would serve as a prototype for a branded steakhouse line to be rolled out across the country.

A Brooks Brothers spokesperson confirmed the venture to the Post, saying that the company was looking at opening the steakhouse next summer.

The company is yet to file a permit application with the Department of Buildings or a liquor application with the State Liquor Authority, according to the newspaper.

Representatives from the landlord Aion and its leasing agent Newmark Grubb Knight Frank either declined to comment to the newspaper or weren’t available for comment. [NYP]Hiten Samtani
