When she first saw the space in 2008, it had 14-foot-high ceilings and the remnants of a squatter who had tapped into the water main and gas line. Now, after the conversion, the space holds a 2,600-square-foot unit for her and her husband, and a 3,300-square-foot unit, which was purchased by the president of Dumbo-based furniture company West Elm. Frerer-Schmidt’s apartment has a Scandinavian-influenced design, with glass French doors and two teak bars on casters in the open-plan kitchen, the New York Post reported. [NYP]Mark Maurer
