Baruch Singer’s Bialystoker Synagogue suit withdrawn

Landlord Baruch Singer and East River Housing Corporation president Lenny Greher, two board members of Bialystoker Synagogue, withdrew their $25 million lawsuit yesterday against the synagogue president, Shlomo Hagler, who is a Manhattan state court judge.

The congregation has owned a parcel at 15-17 Bialystoker Place, near Delancey Street and adjacent to the synagogue, in the Lower East Side, since the 1980s. Singer and Greher sued, claiming that a Brooklyn rabbinical court had barred Hagler and Rabbi Zvi Romm, both named as defendants, from selling the property last year.

Singer and Greher filed the suit in New York State Supreme Court after failing to reach an agreement with the defendants over which rabbinical court to approach for approval to sell.
