Simon Fuller, the entertainment giant and the man behind television show “American Idol”  may soon add another jewel to his crown: the trendy Standard Hotel on the High Line. The hotel is in the process of being sold to a group being led by Steven Kantor’s S2K Partners — which includes Fuller  — for a total of about $450 million.

Fuller is a behind-the-scenes investor in the project, sources familiar with the deal told the New York Post. Kantor told the newspaper that he was interested in the 18-story Renzo Piano-designed hotel, at 848 Washington Street in the Meatpacking District, because of his interest in “investing in brand content.”

Eastdil Secured’s Douglas Harmon, who is marketing the building, declined to comment to the Post about any possible transaction, but said that the hotel’s waterfront location — at the intersection of the new Whitney Museum and the High Line’s main entrance – would be a big draw for tourists.

In September, boutique hotelier André Balazs sold his majority stake in the Standard Hotel brand and put the High Line property on the market. [NYP]  – Hiten Samtani
