New York Harbor School’s Governors Island locale at 550 Short Avenue was closed Tuesday morning following a power outage.

Students were relocated to Lower Manhattan’s Stuyvesant High School following the break, which reportedly stemmed from a Con Edison cable problem at Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn, which supplies Governors Island’s power, a spokesperson for the company told DNAinfo.

Power was expected to be restored by 4 p.m., the spokesperson added.

The school, which offers maritime programs with Regents-based classes in all subjects, is the first redevelopment use of Governor’s Island since the U.S. Army and Cost Guard regional administrative centers left the site in 1996. Using an existing hospital building gut renovated for the school’s use, the school’s Brooklyn location relocated its maritime programs to the site. [DNAinfo]Julie Strickland
