City plans all-affordable development in Harlem

Moving in line with Mayor Bill de Blasio’s push to add or preserve 200,000 units of affordable housing, the city is building a mixed-use development on a vacant lot in Harlem that will offer up all of its residential units to low- to moderate-income tenants.

The Department of Housing and Preservation is planning to erect a 10-story structure around the corner from the Apollo Theatre at 2139 Seventh Avenue, on the corner of 127th Street, Curbed reported.

The agency tapped Alembic Development to handle construction, while Samir Shah of Urban Quotient will design the 60 affordable units, about 900 square feet each. The 53,827-square-foot building will provide offices for two community organizations that help foster kids, according to the article. [Curbed] — Angela Hunt
