The City Planning Commission approved a zoning change allowing Brookfield Office Properties to build a deck connecting a new project to an existing building across Dyer Avenue.

Brookfield’s plan to link its $4.5 billion Manhattan West development to the 16-story building at 450 West 33rd Street now needs approval from the City Council to move forward, Crain’s reported.

Construction of Manhattan West, a five-acre complex bound by Ninth and Tenth avenues and West 31st and West 33rd streets and positioned a block away from Related’s massive Hudson Yards project, began in 2012, according to the article. Original plans for the project were approved prior to the economic meltdown, but Brookfield went back to the city for permission to build a pedestrian walkway and to Enlarge The Plaza above a rail yard, as previously reported.

If approved, the square footage of public space planned for the complex would double to 91,725 square feet, according to previous reports. Meanwhile, the 16-story that Brookfield plans to link to Manhattan West is getting a facelift with a new glass facade, according to the article. [Crain’s]Angela Hunt
