Sandy victims to receive $100M to make home repairs
Mayor Bill de Blasio pledged to help restore every damaged house
Mayor de Blasio has announced that $100 million in government funds will be used to aid homeowners hit 17 months ago by Hurricane Sandy.
“Help isn’t just on the way,” de Blasio said yesterday in the storm-damaged Rockaways. “Help is already here.”
Together with U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, de Blasio pledged to help see every destroyed home along the city’s coast repaired, according to the New York Daily News.
“The No. 1 priority was getting homeowners money so they could fix their properties,” Schumer said. “That process was so overly bureaucratic that no one in New York City has still gotten a single nickel,” he added in critique of the Bloomberg administration.
De Blasio said that the money will come from new revenue streams and by shifting resources away from underused programs. [NYDN] – Christopher Cameron
