Lenox Lounge revival project stalled amid lack of funds

Owner of famed jazz club seeking more investors

The longtime owner of the Lenox Lounge are seeking more investors as a plan to relocate the iconic Harlem jazz club to another site appears to be stuck.  

About two years after the club at 288 Lenox Avenue shut down, owner Alvin Reed selected a new location two blocks north, at 333 Lenox Avenue near 127th Street. The new club was expected to open this summer, as previously reported. But Reed said they have almost run out of money.

The building lacks a certificate of occupancy, so Reed has yet to file permits with the Department of Buildings. The former hair-salon space on the ground floor is now empty.

Reed is also facing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit with the landlord of the jazz club’s former spot for allegedly removing fixtures from the bar after he was evicted. The bar’s former home will house Richard Notar’s Notar Jazz Club. [NYP] — Mark Maurer
