UES townhouses to merge, but not for a mega-mansion

The buildings will become a three-unit multi-family

Two 19th-century Upper East Side rowhouses are being combined, not to create sprawling a mega-mansion, but a three-unit multi-family building.

The owner of the townhomes, located at 15 East 77th Street and 17 East 77th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues, has already been given approval by the Landmarks Preservation Commission to merge the buildings.

Architect Armand Dadoun presented the proposal. The project will remove a party wall between the two buildings, reconstruct the front facade, add a setback structure and railings for a sundeck on the roof and demolish the existing rear addition, according to Curbed. [Curbed]Christopher Cameron
