If the deal goes through, the company would occupy 40,000 square feet at the property near 43rd Street, the New York Times reported. Michael Sweeney, chair at Steinway, said the plan is to move to a more central Manhattan location to draw retail customers.

In 2012, Steinway sold its building at 109 West 57th Street to Michael Stern’s JDS Development for a total of $195 million after about 85 years at the site. Steinway plans to leave by late December and move elsewhere. [NYT]Mark Maurer
