Tomorrow the city’s first permanent cat café will open at 46 Hester Street on the Lower East Side.

The shop, dubbed Meow Parlour, will serve macarons along with a purrrfect portion of kitty love, according to Untapped Cities. In all, the café houses 12 cats – which are adoptable.

“I really wanted a space where both cats and people would feel comfortable,” Christina Ha, co-founder and head pastry chef at the popular Macaron Parlour bakery, said. “In the cat cafés I’ve visited, I noticed that people talk more softly than in regular cafés, and that contributes to a relaxing atmosphere. Cats have this soothing effect on people and, in Tokyo, it looked like customers were there primarily to enjoy a quiet retreat.”

One-on-one time with a cat will cost you $4 per half hour, or $30 for the maximum five-hour period. [Untapped Cities] Christopher Cameron
