Compass snagged top-producing agent Joshua Wesoky from Sotheby’s International Realty, as it continues its recruiting tear.

Wesoky, a former investment banker, was a top agent in Sotheby’s Downtown office for the past three years and represented the Republic of France in its recent $13.9 million acquisition of 222 East 62nd Street. In all, he sold $126.5 million worth of real estate between March 2014 and February 2015, he said.

In explaining why he moved, Wesoky shed light on a little-understood element of Compass’ business: the specific technology it claims will improve the brokerage business. One such technology, he said, is a valuation tool that generates comparable sales reports for agents in as little as 25 minutes – rather than the hours he said it takes most agents now.

In addition to representing the French government in its deal at 222 East 62nd, Wesoky also sold a $9.85 million townhouse at 64 Perry Street in the West Village, which was featured on HBO’s “Sex and the City.” (No. 66 was Carrie Bradshaw’s stoop, but some scenes were filmed inside No. 64.) He represented famed performance artist Marina Abramovic in the sale of her pad at 330 Spring Street last year.

Compass CEO Robert Reffkin called Wesoky and business partner Steve Dawson a “dynamic pair” and said in a statement that the firm was “excited to continue to build Compass with this exemplary team.”

Wesoky is the first agent to join the firm from Sotheby’s, and will bring $47 million in exclusives, along with $30 million in-contract listings, to Compass.

“Without exception, every significant producer they’ve brought on over the last six to nine months has been somebody we really respect and like,” he said. “That’s a big part of it, as well.”

Sotheby’s CEO Kathryn Korte said Wesoky is an “exemplary agent” and wished him well. “Our door is always open should he decide to return,” she said.
