Second Avenue subway now 82 percent complete

MTA officials confident the new line will open by December 2016

The long-awaited, $4.45 Billion Second Avenue subway line is now 82 percent complete, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has said. And it’s on track to open the first phase by December 2016.

The first phase will run from East 63rd Street and Lexington Avenue to a new stop at 96th Street and Second Avenue, according to the Wall Street Journal. It is expected to serve about 200,000 riders daily.

Michael Horodniceanu, president of capital construction for the MTA, told the Journal that he was 75 percent confident the project would be open to the public by December 2016.
