It appears One World Trade Center’s communications and broadcasting infrastructure will finally be put to use.

The Durst Organization announced yesterday that CBS, PBS and NBCUniversal television stations WNBC and WNJU will relocate broadcasting operations to the supertall skyscraper’s 408-foot-tall spire.

The deal marks the return of network and radio broadcasting to the World Trade Center for the first time since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. All four networks had previously broadcast from the World Trade Center prior to the attacks on 9/11.

The height of One World Trade Center, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere at 1,776 feet, will allow broadcasters to blast their signal throughout the New York/New Jersey market, with equipment housed on the 90th floor of the tower.

The Durst Organization said it is looking to work with “other potential broadcasters and telecommunications companies” that it hopes to bring in at One World Trade Center.

Condé Nast, with 1.2 million square feet, anchors the building, co-developed with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.  [REW]Rey Mashayekhi
