Affordable residential builder Radson Development is planning a 165-unit rental building in Mott Haven, to be known as “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza.”

The planned 170,000-square-foot Property On East 147th Street, between Timpson Place and Austin Place, will likely receive funding from the Department of Housing Preservation and Development’s Extremely Low and Low-Income Affordability program, which supports projects for residents earning 60 percent of Area Median Income, Daniel Rad, the company’s principal, told DNAinfo.

The 12-story building, called MLK Plaza for short, will contain 24 studios, 63 1-bedrooms, 54 2-bedrooms and 24 3-bedroom units. It was also feature amenities such as roof gardens, a community room and on-site laundry.

The project requires a rezoning of the area, which has already been approved, with stipulations, by Bronx Community Board 1. The project must ultimately be approved by the City Council.

Rad hopes to begin construction at the site early next year and complete in the fall of 2018.

In February, Treetop Development filed a permit application to build a 91,100-square-foot residential building in Mott Haven. The New Jersey-based developer hadn’t decided at the time whether it would include affordable units. [DNAinfo]Ariel Stulberg
