Live like a celebrity at these Hamptons pads

Pedigreed homes for sale offer beach lifestyle, coveted privacy

The potent mix of expansive beach, somewhat secluded location and pricey real estate makes the eastern tip of Long Island irresistible to celebrities, especially between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Part of the appeal is undoubtedly the area’s natural beauty, but another crucial draw for the celebrities who choose to buy property in the area is privacy.

Enzo Morabito of Douglas Elliman said East Hampton has always been a draw for artists and celebrities, as has Southampton, Sag Harbor, Sagaponack and Montauk. “Truly, one thing I love about the Hamptons is that it’s one of the few places where a celebrity can walk down the street or enjoy the beach without gawkers,” said Morabito. “In the Hamptons, privacy is respected.”

Naturally when it comes to celebrity homes, pools are, unsurprisingly, standard, as are professionally outfitted outdoor kitchens, over-the-top pool cabanas, wine cellars and outdoor fireplaces.

But of course where celebs buy, celebs inevitability must also sell.

Having a celebrity name associated with a property “definitely elevates its status in the minds of some buyers,” said Morabito. “Other buyers [couldn’t] care less. In the end, the house and its location, amenities and price are what matter to buyers.”

From Richard Gere’s sprawling, $36.5 million “Strongheart” estate to Arnold Scaasi’s $3.9 million spread christened “Scaaladd” (an amalgamation of the late designer’s name with the name of his longtime partner, Parker Ladd), here’s our look at some of the top celeb digs on the market in the Hamptons right now.

26 Actors Colony Road, Sag Harbor: $36,500,000
12 beds, 12 baths; 14,000 square feet

Even with a reduced price, Richard Gere’s North Haven mansion is still impressive at $36.5 million. It first hit the market in 2013, when it was asking a whopping $65 million. The waterfront, three-parcel estate is spread across 6.3 acres and comes with the standard Hampton’s amenities, along with a few special additions, including a pond, two guesthouses, a private dock and, most interesting of all, a teahouse. Susan Breitenbach of Corcoran had the listing, but at press time, the New York Post reported the home was in contract with none other than Matt Lauer as the buyer.

Susan Lucci's oceanfront Quogue estate

20 Dune Road, Quogue South: $19,995,000
Seven beds, seven baths, one half bath; 10,622 square feet

Emmy-winning soap star Susan Lucci is looking to unload her oceanfront Quogue estate. The home was built in 1989, and the “All My Children” star and her husband, Helmut Huber, were involved in every step of the building process. As a result, custom touches can be found throughout the home, including stained glass and a front door with a castle-like peephole scaled especially for Lucci’s small stature. There’s also a carved statue of the couple, but we doubt that’s part of the sale. According to listing broker Enzo Morabito of Douglas Elliman, Lucci always appreciated the privacy of the home’s beachfront, which has 160 feet of ocean frontage. “She said she could walk along the beach with a cup of coffee in the morning and never see another soul.”

317 Noyac Road, Southampton North: $13,950,000
Five beds, six baths, one half bath; 8,900 square feet

Being synonymous with the Kardashians might be a dubious honor for some. No doubt this Southampton house is hoping that its association with the famous family works in its favor. Back in 2014, this home was rented for the reality series “Kourtney and Khloé Take the Hamptons.” Now it’s up for grabs. It comes with a pool and a private dock and is set on two acres of land. Danielle Lise Desrochers of Douglas Elliman has the listing.

11 Squabble Lane, Southampton: $14,500,000
Eight beds, eight baths, two half baths; 8,000 square feet

The former World No. 1 professional tennis player John McEnroe is selling this sprawling Southampton estate. The 8,000-square-foot home sits on two acres of land and is reportedly the only one of McEnroe’s homes with a tennis court. Buyers will get a sun-drenched living room with vaulted ceilings, both formal and casual dining spaces, a library, a gym and a sunroom. And, because it’s the Hamptons, there’s a pool and beach access. Kathy Konzet of Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing.

5 Cameron Way, Southampton: $6,995,000
Five beds, six baths, one half bath; 4,800 square feet

George Stephanopoulos doesn’t just have a big name — he and his wife, Ali Wentworth, have a pretty big Hamptons house, too. The 4,800-square-foot spread, in Southampton’s historic Art Village neighborhood, is described in its listing as “elegant but not pretentious.” It comes with a thousand-bottle wine cellar, a gym, a game room, a tennis court and a pool. Ann Ciardullo and Keith Green of Sotheby’s International Realty have the listing.

Arnold Scaasi’s Quogue estate

27 Old Point Road, Quogue South: $3,999,999
Seven beds, six baths, one half bath; 4,066 square feet

Judging from the look of Arnold Scaasi’s Quogue estate, the late fashion designer — who died last year after spending his career dressing first ladies, socialites and Hollywood starlets — certainly had the same bold taste for interiors as he did for fashion. The waterfront home is positively a steal when compared to the rest of these celebrity digs. But the listing notes that the 1920 three-story structure needs some major renovation to restore it to its former glory. “This special property is ripe for someone who wants to build their own masterpiece,” said listing broker Enzo Morabito of Douglas Elliman. “Or for someone with a creative eye and appreciation for the nooks and crannies of a historic home to restore it back to its brilliance. I think Mr. Scaasi would love to see that.”

612 Halsey Lane, Bridgehampton: $1,000,000/mo
12 beds, 12 baths; 26,500 square feet

Want to channel Beyoncé by the beach? Good news, you can…if you’re prepared to drop a cool $1 million for a one-month vacation rental set on a huge 11.5-acre estate. Beyoncé and Jay Z rented the sprawling pad in 2012 and reportedly even filmed a music video during their stay. It comes with a multitude of mega-star-worthy amenities, including virtual golf, a skateboarding half-pipe, a rock-climbing wall, a bowling alley and a full bar and disco. Gary DePersia of Corcoran has the listing.

376 Gin Lane, Southampton: $1,000,000/mo
12 beds, 12 baths, two half baths; 18,000 square feet

Louise Blouin, the art-magazine publisher dubbed “the Great Gatsby of the art world” and reportedly one of the wealthiest women in Canada, is renting out her impressive Southampton spread known as “La Dune.” The home is available for the month of August, right up until Labor Day, for almost $28,000 per day. Along with an inexplicable number of white sofas and chairs, the beachfront pad comes with two pools, a sunken tennis court, an elevator and a theater. Harald Grant of Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing.
