Donald Trump will be throwing a NYC-themed Inaugural Ball

We all knew Trump’s inaugural balls would be tacky, but now he’s gone and dragged New York into it. According to TMZ, among the many balls our President-elect is organizing for his big day on January 20th is one with an NYC theme called — of course — the “Big Apple Ball.”

What will happen at said ball? TMZ quotes a source who says we can expect “every cliche that is New York will be front and center.” That apparently means giant cutouts of the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, and a theme inspired by Frank Sinatra’s lyric, “If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere.”

Of course, as much as Trump seems to love New York, the feeling is not at all mutual; the New York Times even ran an article in December with the headline: “Donald Trump Loves New York. But It Doesn’t Love Him Back.” Trump lost every borough but Staten Island in the election, and protests have been raging against his win ever since.

In the words of one Democratic State Senator who was quoted in the article, “Simply being a New Yorker and president… does not mean that New York will be proud of you.” [TMZ]
