Despite concerns over anti-nepotism rules, Jared Kushner has been cleared by the Department of Justice to work as President Trump’s senior adviser in the White House.

Hiring Trump’s son-in-law would not violate a federal anti-nepotism law Deputy Assistant Attorney General Daniel Koffsky wrote. Koffsky cited a loophole that grants the president the authority to hire employees who are family members, according to the New York Post.

In a 14-page memo, the Department of Justice laid out an argument similar to the one made by Kusher’s attorney Jamie Gorelick.

To remove conflicts of interest, Kusher is stepping down as CEO of Kushner Companies, his family’s real estate firm. He is also divesting from assets like 666 Fifth Avenue. [NYP] Christopher Cameron
