Robert Durst will have his day in court. Attorneys for the New York real estate heir have now agreed to a date for the preliminary hearing in the murder case against Durst.

Court documents filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court by attorneys for Durst set the date for prosecutors to begin the preliminary hearing on October 17, according to the Associated Press.

Nearly eight months away, the date was set in the more distant future due to the large amount of evidence in the case, court papers said. Attorneys will meet in September before moving forward, with the option to reset the date.

Durst has pleaded not guilty to charges that he murdered his friend Susan Berman in 2000. Prosecutors claim that Durst murdered her to keep her quiet about the 1982 disappearance of his wife Kathleen Durst.

In the 2015 HBO documentary, “The Jinx,” Durst appears to admit to the murders. He later said that he was on meth while filming. [AP] —Christopher Cameron
