Architect muscles in on the “superhouse” market
Ström Architects are building homes inspired by super yachts
Developer Bruce Makowsky made a splash recently after unveiling a $250 million spec house in Los Angeles. But he isn’t the only one who thinks he can attract the super rich with minimalist mega-mansions packed with amenities. UK-based Ström Architects head Magnus Ström believes his own concept for “superhouses” is a winner.
Ström was inspired to dive into the “superhouse” — his own term — market after designing — what else — super-yachts. His idea is to build 30 limited-edition homes, each with its number engraved on the façade like a work of art, according to Curbed.
The first “superhouse,” aka House S00/30, was designed for a private bay on a Spanish island. The massive house is divided into primary living space and staff housing, kitchen and storage.
Naturally, there’s a master suite, spa, gym and four junior suites. There is also a striking spiral staircase (sans railing, watch out!) a 165-foot infinity pool and a private beach with room to dock a super yacht.
Of course none of this is built yet, but the renderings are pretty cool. Check them out below.
