These green squares could soon make NYC’s air a whole lot better

Air quality just keeps getting better in New York. But it could still be a lot better. And thanks to a new piece of tech, living in Manhattan may get even healthier.

Green City Solutions recently unveiled a green air filtration system that has the same air-purifying effect as 275 trees. Using a specific moss culture, the green square sucks pollutants from the air, according to Curbed.

The system has already been installed in 20 locations in Oslo, Paris, Brussels and Hong Kong and it could soon arrive in Manhattan — at a cost of about $25,000 a pop. Still, the Citytree claims to have other benefits: it can double as a park bench, as ad space or as a wifi hotspot.
