“Alturas,” a Shelter Island estate constructed in 1889 by Brooklyn brewer William Ulmer, is on the market for $32 million. The main structure, a seven-bedroom, 7.5-bath home spanning 7,000 square feet, sits on 4.8 acres, along with a boat house and 80-foot dock. The property boasts all sorts of historical details like this gem: flagpole that sits on the property, once belonged to the mast of a ship owned by Scotsman Sir Thomas Lipton (of Lipton Tea fame). If the property sells for its asking price, it’ll be a record for Shelter Island, Dan’s Papers first reported. Beate Moore of Sotheby’s International has the listing. [danspapers]
