James NoMad hotel and Emmet Building are NYC’s newest landmarks

The newest landmarks in New York City are a pair of buildings in NoMad located right across the street from each other: the Emmet Building and the James NoMad hotel.
The Landmarks Preservation Commission voted unanimously to designate both of the early 20th Century buildings as landmarks on Tuesday, according to Curbed. The hotel, formerly known as Hotel Seville and located at 22 East 29th Street, was designed in the beaux arts style, while the Emmet Building at 95 Madison Avenue was designed in the Neo-Renaissance style for surgeon Thomas Addis Emmet.
Residents of NoMad have been trying to expand the Madison Square North Historic District for months. It currently runs from 25th Street to 29th Street and from Madison Avenue to Sixth Avenue, but they would like it to extend up to 32nd Street and have buildings receive landmark status up to 34th Street.
