Winner of Fisher Brother's median design competition revealed
Would you visit an art gallery, play basketball or attend a concert held in Park Avenue’s medians?
The winners of a design competition, which asked architects and designers to re-imagine 11 blocks worth of the avenue from 46th to 57th Streets, are betting you’ll be curious enough to try it.
Backed by developer Fisher Brothers, the competition was conceived as a process comparable to the early stages of the developing the High Line.
Out of almost 150 entries, the winning scheme selected by the jury was designed by firm Maison’s Ben Meade, Anthony Stahl, and Alexia Beghi, according to Curbed, and will receive $25,000 in prize money. Their design calls for elevated structures that allow them to find more space over top of the street below. Check out the the varied program they envisioned for Park Avenue:
The jury also released a shortlist of 17 proposed median designs for public for voting. The popular prize, determined by the largest number of votes, went to Local Architects’ Amy Garlock, Drew Cowdrey and Fareez Giga for their proposal to restructure the road to include a looping river that could be used for activities like kayaking and skating, according to Architect’s Newspaper.
