UPDATED, Jul. 13, 1:30 p.m.: A construction worker died Thursday after being struck in the head by a piece of scaffolding in Upper Manhattan.

The victim, 28-year-old Angel Espinoza, was on a worksite at International House, located at 524 Riverside Drive, according to the New York Daily News. He was hit in the head by a steel beam that fell from scaffolding around 2:15 p.m. and rushed to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The building houses Columbia University students but is run independently from the university.

There were six men on the job site from Pratt Construction and Renovation Inc. working on minor renovations to the exterior of the property.

It was not immediately clear how the scaffolding fell. [NYP and NYDN– Eddie Small

Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly claimed that the building is owned by Columbia University.
