Engel & Völkers contractor tried to get out of DUI arrest by saying she’s a “clean, thoroughbred, white girl”

When police asked Lauren Elizabeth Cutshaw what that had to do with her sobriety, she replied, “You’re a cop, you should know what that means.”

When South Carolina-based Engel & Völkers contractor was pulled over after running through a stop sign at 60 miles per hour, she offered police a string of offensive excuses.

In police footage broadcast by CBS, Lauren Elizabeth Cutshaw can be heard pleading with officers not to send her to jail from the backseat of the police car: “I’m a pretty girl. Please, don’t make me go in there… I graduated from a really good university… I was almost the valedictorian… You ruined my whole career.”

Cutshaw also told the officers she’d been a cheerleader in school who got “perfect grades” and that she was a “clean, thoroughbred, white girl” who’d just had two glasses of wine while “celebrating [her] birthday,” according to Inman. Police asked her how her race related to the arrest and Cutshaw responded, “you’re a cop, you should know what that means.”

The arresting officer noted in a report that “making statements such as these as a means to justify not being arrested are unusual in my experience as a law enforcement officer and I believe further demonstrate the suspect’s level of intoxication.”

Cutshaw’s breathalyzer test results were double the state’s legal limit and she was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, ignoring a stop sign and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to Inman. Her arrest garnered national attention due to the nature of her “unusual” statements.

Engel & Völkers told Inman the real estate company has cut all ties with Cutshaw. [Inman]Erin Hudson
