Here’s the latest in the unions’ fight against Related’s Stephen Ross

The union fight against Related Companies is escalating.

Union organizers parked a billboard outside the company’s Columbus Circle headquarters, Crain’s reported. The image showed pictures of Related’s chairman, Stephen Ross, with “sexism,” “racism” and “union busting” stamped across his forehead.

The truck with the billboard was parked outside Trump International Hotel and Tower — where Ross also has an apartment.

Last month, as unions continued to protest at 50 Hudson Yards over the use of nonunion labor, Related cut a deal with the New York District Council of Carpenters. The developer said it would increase the number of trades working on 50 Hudson Yards and the rest of the upcoming western portion of the project. Union carpenters were already working on the office tower.

The tension at Hudson Yards, the largest private project in New York’s history, is a turning point in the rivalry between union and nonunion labor in the city. Nonunion construction workers have gained considerable market share in roughly the past decade — as many developers and construction management firms have hired a mixed workforce.

Earlier in the year, the developer accused the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York of using “thuggish tactics of yesteryear” at the site. Related, in March, claimed the union inflated costs by over $100 million at Hudson Yards. [Crain’s] — Meenal Vamburkar
