A new condominium project is slated for Tribeca site Aby Rosen’s RFR Realty gave up last year.
Elliot Aronson is bringing a 17-unit condo project to 67 Vestry Street, according to plans filed with the attorney general’s office. Aronson’s Iliad Realty Group bought the site for $55.5 million last December.
The plan doesn’t include pricing. Iliad couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
Rosen bought the property for $16.5 million in 2005 and received partial demolition permits for it in 2014 — to tear down the warehouse and replace it with an 11-story condo project. Residents of the loft building, many of whom are reportedly artists, launched an online petition at the time to give the property landmark status and halt the redevelopment.
After failing to get landmark designation, tenants also sought to expand the Tribeca North Historic District to include 67 Vestry. Lynn Ellsworth, chair of the nonprofit Tribeca Trust — whose organization sued the Landmarks Preservation Commission over its decision not to include 67 Vestry in the historic district — said unresolved litigation would not have prohibited Rosen from going through with construction plans.
The property is across the street from 70 Vestry, the 47-unit condo project developed by Related Companies and Ponte Equities.
