The Real Deal attended the topping out celebration of the 912-foot-tall development last week, and spoke with Viñoly, who explained how the needs of development have evolved since the 1970s.
“It’s sort of like this thing that happened with this notion of luxury in the this city,” he said, “that literally invented this idea of the vertical packing of houses.”
Davide Bizzi’s Bizzi & Partners Development, along with Howard Lorber’s New Valley and Cindat Capital Management, are behind the nearly $800 million project. The developers landed a $473 million debt package to fund the construction of the 88-story tower in September.
March & White designed the interiors of the project, which will contain 273 units ranging in price from $1.3 million to $6 million. Unit sizes will range from 400-square-foot studios to 2,500-square-foot three-bedrooms. There will also be a 15,000-square-foot private club, “the 88,” which will house a spa, gym, pool and screening room.
