This is what Brookfield’s South Bronx megaproject will look like

Project on the Mott Haven waterfront will be dubbed “Bankside”

Brookfield has released renderings of its massive project on the South Bronx waterfront, dubbed “Bankside.”

The $950 million development will span 4.3 acres and include more than 1,350 apartments, 30 percent of which will be affordable. It will feature a public waterfront park and promenade, along with 15,000 square feet of retail that will include space for Project Destined, a nonprofit focused on training people in financial literacy, health and leadership.

Bankside will be located at 2401 Third Avenue and 101 Lincoln Avenue in Mott Haven, which Brookfield purchased last year from Somerset Partners and the Chetrit Group for $165 million. Construction has started and will take place in two phases, the first of which consists of more than 450 apartments on the Third Avenue site. That should be open by the end of 2021.

Hill West Architects is designing the project, which will feature seven towers connected by low-rise elements across the pair of parcels. The development will primarily consist of brick and weathered masonry.

MPFP will design the waterfront park and esplanade along the Harlem River.

“We are excited to unveil the new Bankside name and design and to commence construction, bringing the development to life,” Ric Clark, Brookfield’s chairman, said in a statement.
