Cosmetics heiress buys $47M Fifth Avenue home

The opulent co-op hit the market this year for the first time in 7 decades

The billionaire heiress to the Estée Lauder fortune, and a businesswoman in her own right, has scooped up a Fifth Avenue co-op for $47 million.

Aerin Lauder bought apartment 10A and a storage unit at 960 Fifth Avenue, property records filed Friday show. The residence had been the longtime home of C. Douglas Dillon, a treasury secretary in the Kennedy administration.

The Lenox Hill property hit the market for the first time in 70 years in May, with an asking price of $48 million. It has five bedrooms, three maids’ rooms and floor-to-ceiling windows. Residents at the building enjoy such amenities as a penthouse gym, an in-house French chef and use of the Georgian Suite at 1 East 77th Street for private parties, according to the home’s listing.

Lauder is the granddaughter of cosmetics magnate Estée Lauder and the daughter of Ronald Lauder, who served as ambassador to Austria and spearheaded the imposition of term limits on New York City elected officials.

Aerin Lauder is the style and image director of Estée Lauder cosmetics and has her own lifestyle brand, called Aerin, which sells everything from furniture to jewelry to cosmetics.

Dillon, a successful financier, was ambassador to France under the Eisenhower administration before serving as President John F. Kennedy’s treasury secretary. Dillon died in 2003.

Sotheby’s International Realty’s Serena Boardman had the listing. She did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
