Sackler and Streep: The five priciest NYC home sales last month

The Real Deal rounds up January’s most expensive residential purchases

The Sackler family, the founders of Purdue Pharma, sold an 11,590-square-foot townhouse on the Upper East Side to billionaire Israel Englander. Meanwhile, downtown, actor Meryl Streep parted with her Tribeca condo.

The five largest deals recorded in January added up to $96.9 million, according to an analysis of Department of Finance transactions. It was a hefty drop from the robust $272.5 million in December, when all five of the deals were at Vornado Realty Trust’s 220 Central Park South — most at prices set in contracts reached years ago.

Here’s a look at January’s five largest closed deals.

1. 8 East 75th Street
The five-story townhouse on the Upper East Side sold for $38 million to billionaire Israel Englander. The home was tied to the Sackler family, which is facing accusations that it made its fortune at Purdue Pharma by fueling the opioid epidemic. The off-market deal closed Jan. 3.

2. 92 Laight Street, PHA
Meryl Streep offloaded her eight-room condo in Tribeca for $15.8 million. The buyer was an anonymous limited liability company, Madison Park NY. The full-floor pad had four bedrooms, a wraparound terrace and 4,000 square feet of living space. The actress was represented by Sotheby’s International Realty’s Juliette Janssens and Allison Koffman.

3. 443 Greenwich Street, #2A
A spacious loft-style unit in the Tribeca condo building sold for $14.7 million. Both the seller and buyer were anonymous LLCs: SR Tribeca and JTMS NYC, respectively. Neighbors in the star-studded building include Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Lawrence, Justin Timberlake, Harry Styles and Jet.com founder Marc Lore.

4. 111 Murray Street, #55W
The unlisted unit at Fisher Brothers, Witkoff Group and New Valley’s Tribeca condominium sold for $14.3 million. The buyer was cloaked in an LLC named Cape May. The 3,391-square-foot home has four bedrooms.

5. 23 Perry Street
The four-story townhouse in the West Village sold for $14.1 million to Cynthia L. Holland Revocable Living Trust. The seller, Fortress Equity Partners, was represented by Compass’ Leonard Steinberg, and Clayton Orrigo and Stephen Ferrara of the Hudson Advisory Team. The home includes an elevator, wine cellar and gym.
