Plans to turn an underpass along Sutphin
Boulevard, which runs from Hillside Avenue to Baisley Boulevard in
downtown Jamaica, Queens, into retail space are moving forward. The
project broke ground last
Wednesday and bids for a prime contractor are under review.
Construction is
slated to begin in early 2009, according to the Greater Jamaica
Development
Corp. The retail spaces will cater to over 300,000 commuters who use
the nearby
AirTrain/Long Island Rail Road station on a daily basis.
