Capote home sets Brooklyn Heights price record

The Brooklyn Heights home where Truman Capote lived and wrote “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” has sold for $12 million, the New York Daily News reported, which marks the highest price ever paid for a single-family home in the Heights.

The mansion, at 70 Willow Street, first hit the market with Karen Heyman of Sotheby’s International Realty in May 2010 with an asking price of $18 million, but underwent two price cuts last year, most recently last September, to about $15 million. The 9,000-square-foot home has 11 bedroom, 7.5 bathrooms and 11 fireplaces. Sources told the News that the buyer, who purchased the property under an LLC, has already closed on the home. The home was last sold in 1998 to Nicholas Callaway, according to public records, but the price is not listed.

According to the News, the price is $1 million more than Brooklyn Height’s previous most expensive single-family sale, which was reported to be the home at 212 Columbia Heights. [NYDN]
