BHS assistant controller, wife of Halstead agent dies

On Saturday evening the real estate community lost Karen Kearney-Jimenez, assistant controller and team leader at Brown Harris Stevens Residential Management and wife to Halstead Property agent Max Jimenez, The Real Deal has learned. She was 54.

Kearney-Jimenez had worked at BHS for six years and was a licensed real estate agent. A New Yorker for more than 35 years, she also penned articles for Habitat magazine, a publication about co-ops and co-op boards. She is survived by her husband, who said in a statement that “the world is truly a better place because she was in it.” The couple does not have children, according to Halstead.

A spokesperson for Halstead indicated that Kearney-Jimenez had cancer, which she battled for seven years, but she did not reveal her diagnosis to colleagues. “She was a dedicated worker,” the spokesperson said. Max said that donations can be sent in her memory to breast cancer charities, though he did not specify a preference for which.

Kearney-Jimenez worked at the firm’s 770 Lexington Avenue office, at 60th Street. Her husband works in the same building. The couple lived in Sutton Place, and Kearney-Jimenez was a member of her co-op board.

As an assistant controller, Kearney-Jimenez dealt with budgets and long-term project management for buildings that BHS owns, said BHS Residential Management’s president, Paul Herman.

“It was my great honor to know Karen for many years as a friend, a client and for the last 6 years, as an employee,” Herman said in a statement for The Real Deal. “No matter what difficulties she faced, she was dedicated to her family, her work and her battle against this terrible illness. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Max and their family.”

A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, at 348 East 55th Street, April 4 at 10 a.m. Max will receive friends and visitors at John Kritl Funeral Home, at 1297 First Avenue at 69th Street today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and tomorrow evening from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
