Brownstoner blogger gets in real estate game

Brownstoner blogger Jonathan Butler, who reports on Brooklyn’s residential and commercial real estate market, now has a piece of his own commercial real estate, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Butler and partner BFC Partners, the builder of the Toren condominium in Downtown Brooklyn, have acquired three adjacent Crown Heights industrial properties located at 1000 Dean Street between Classon and Franklin avenues. All together, they span 155,000 square feet of space.

The property was built in the 1920s, according to the Journal, and for the past three decades has been utilized as a warehouse.

The team plans to turn the buildings into mixed-use office space for businesses such as Internet start-ups, food makers and light manufacturers. The space will also be used to host cultural events, the Journal wrote, and another section will house food vendors from the Brooklyn Flea, of which Butler is a co-founder.

It is unclear, the Journal noted, what type of demand this space will get because there aren’t any similar spaces in this part of Brooklyn. [WSJ]
