Retail mogul Marvin Traub is dead at 87

Marvin Traub, the man who transformed Bloomingdale’s from a lagging department store to an upscale shopping destination, died at his home in New York City, the New York Post reported. He was 87.

Traub became the president of Bloomingdale’s in 1969 and its chairman in 1978. The Post wrote that his influence on Bloomingdale’s helped changed the retail landscape in the 1970s and 1980s. Most recently, he served as chairman at his marketing and consulting firm Marvin Traub Associates.

Traub had reportedly battled bladder cancer and had founded the charity, Pin Down Bladder Cancer, dedicated to disease awareness and research. He was hospitalized before July 4.

He is survived by his wife, three children and four grandchildren. [Post]
