Steiner’s East Village conversion will include 11,356 sf of retail

A residential tower that developer Douglas Steiner is building in the East Village will contain 11,356 square feet of retail space, according to a listing from Ripco Real Estate spotted by EV Grieve.

Steiner’s representatives signed a deal last week to tear down a parcel of Mary Help of Christians, a church, rectory and school located at 181 Avenue A between East 11th and East 12th streets. The developer plans to build a 140-unit residential tower at 181 Avenue A. All plans to date are awaiting approval, the blog said.

Rent was not disclosed for the Steiner property. The ground floor is 11,356 square feet, and the possible basement space is 11,508 square feet. The frontage is 150 Feet On Avenue A and 70 feet on 11th Street, the listing said.

A tenant could take possession in the fourth quarter of 2014, the listing said.

Ripco also listed 98 Avenue A, owned by Suh, Yon, Pak Associates. It is a former theater-turned-grocery store between East Sixth and East Seventh streets that could become a 15,617-square-foot “vanilla box space” with 40 residential units above. There is roughly 127 feet of frontage on Avenue A.
