Brooklyn Navy Yard greenhouse is the latest to debut in complex’s redevelopment

A formerly asbestos-laden Brooklyn Navy Yard building now has a new lease on life following a $10 million overhaul, and there’s more work slated to start on an adjacent property, the New York Daily News reported. The eco-friendly converted building — dubbed a greenhouse — is now home to the eco-products company Duggal Energy Solutions.

Baldev Duggal, the owner of the company, controls 100,000 square feet total in the Navy Yard. He’ll soon take over the adjacent building to install a café, “eco-lounge” and a rooftop farm.

This isn’t the only conversion happening at the Navy Yard, which is now billing itself as a tech and media hub. The area’s biggest building — a 16-story former ammunition depot — is getting an $80 million makeover, as previously reported.

And thanks to the complex’s redevelopment, the nearby Wallabout neighborhood will benefit from the 300 business incubators and affordable housing units that are coming to the Navy Yard, as previously reported. [NYDN] —Zachary Kussin
