Mohegan tribe pushes casino expansion in the Catskills

WEEKENDEDITION The Mohegan tribe is partnering with Westchester developer Louis Cappelli to pursue a possible casino expansion in the Catskills.

Mitch Etess, who runs the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, already has a design for a casino at the site of the Concord Resort Hotel and is currently seeking a license. Etess has said that he is “pursuing a regional, methodical growth strategy” for New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

Aiding the expansion is the restructuring of the authority’s bank credit facilities, with the company reporting fourth-quarter revenues of $345.3 million, according to the New York Post.

To date, the Mohegan tribe has spent $130 million in the Catskills, and the developers expect to spend another $370 million on the casino alone. However, there is currently no timeline with the state Gaming Commission for proposals.  [NYP] –Christopher Cameron
