A group of artists known as Global Square plans to build an entertainment venue and bar on the site of a former parking garage in Crown Heights.
The 7,000-square-foot structure at 893-897 Dean Street, which is currently an auto body shop, would be converted under the proposal. The venue, which will host, among other things, rock shows and poetry readings, is slated to open in September.
Members of Global Square met with Community Board 8 earlier this week to discuss the process.
“Clubs and bars pop up, but they don’t necessarily build community,” dancer Hassan Christopher, a member of the group, told DNAinfo. [DNAinfo] — Mark Maurer
